Abstract
Toward realizing a low-carbon society, much attention is paid to renewable energy businesses. To clarify conditions for economically sustainable renewable energy businesses, this paper undertakes scenario analysis for evaluating the profits of the business. We carry out a case study regarding a woody biomass energy business in a Japanese rural community. The results reveal that the business becomes economically feasible if the current feed-in tariff (FIT) scheme is maintained. Also, the usage of wood residues for producing wood pellet and electricity results in reducing the disposal cost.
